Textile production chain
Weaving Communities of Practice seeks to recover and reanimate traditions associated with the chain of regional textile production, including:
- Control over territorial management, grazing and herding practices and animal enclosure to prevent over-grazing
- Practices of animal rearing to prevent high mortality amongst the young
- Techniques of shearing to preserve the quality of the animal fibres, including the processes of combing and carding
- Recovery of the finest spinning instruments used in the past
- Exploration of past and present use of natural dyes and methods of cultivating plants to avoid over-use
- Recovery of practices of textile manufacture, including the setting up of the loom, warping, weaving and finishing
- Re-tracing the social life of textiles, including ways of using, wearing, distributing and valuing textile products
