Process by which colour is applied, with the aim of changing the original colour of the material to one different from the material's natural range of colours. The colour can be applied in various ways: i) to the raw animal fibre; ii) to the thread by putting it into an aqueous solution of dyes and mordants; iii) to the threads by direct application of a pigment with cloth or different sized brushes.

Proceso mediante el cual se aplica el color, con el fin de transformar el color original del material a otro diferente a la gama natural de colores de este material. Se puede aplicar el color de varias maneras: i) a la fibra animal en bruto; ii) al hilo al introducirlo en una disolución acuosa compuesta por tintes y por mordientes; iii) a los hilos al aplicar un pigmento directamente; y iv) a una tela terminada, al aplicar un tinte directamente con trapo, brocha o pincel.
